Work Breeds Work
Have you ever heard the expression: Work breeds work? I think it’s absolutely true.
As actors, we live with the strangest rhythm. There can be months of complete silence—nothing happening—and then suddenly, out of the blue, you get cast in two TV shows at once. It's unpredictable, exhilarating, and at times a little maddening.
To give you a bit of context: I don’t audition a lot. Being a Polish actress in the UK, the parts that come my way are few and far between. This year, I’ve had only seven self-tape requests. (And no, I don’t audition for commercials anymore.) But here's the thing: out of those seven tapes, I booked three jobs.
Now, I’m not sharing this to brag. Quite the opposite. I want to emphasise just how important it is to make every single self-tape count. You don’t need dozens of opportunities—you just need a few good ones. And when they do come, if you give them your all, things can start to happen.
This approach has led to something very exciting for me: I’ve just been cast in my first proper comedy show! I've always wanted to do comedy—I feel like I’m actually quite funny—but let’s be honest, there haven’t been many roles for a Polish woman in her 40s in this genre.
So I’m absolutely thrilled to be joining the cast of Boarders on BBC Three. It feels like a long-awaited dream come true.
Of course, as always, I’ll be doing my best to juggle my acting work with running the Acting Studio. I’m especially committed to keeping our Screen Acting GYM sessions going—because just like with self-tapes, consistency and commitment are everything.
Here’s to staying ready, making every opportunity count, and remembering that yes—work really does breed work.
Love you all,
